  1. WinJPEG v.2.65 is a shareware image viewer with image processing and
  2. conversion capabilities for Microsoft Windows 3.x.  It has the following
  3. features:

  5. - display JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, OS/2 BMP, Windows BMP, PPM, or
  6.   IFF images
  7. - export an image to JPEG, TIFF,  Targa, GIF, PCX, OS/2 BMP, Windows
  8.   BMP, PPM, or IFF format 
  9. - display an image in monochrome, 16 color, 256 color, hicolor, or
  10.   truecolor display modes
  11. - display an image with its full palette
  12. - display an image in full screen mode
  13. - zoom with fixed or user-selected scales
  14. - print an image with scaling or with best proportional fit on the page
  15. - red/green/blue or hue/saturation/brightness adjustment
  16. - color to grayscale conversion or image negative conversion
  17. - contrast enhancement
  18. - gamma correction
  19. - image rotation, vertical or horizontal flip, image resizing, and image
  20.   cropping
  21. - batch file compression of GIF, TIFF, Targa, or PPM files to JPEG File
  22.   Interchange Format (JFIF)
  23. - slideshow: display selected files in forward, reverse, or random order
  24.   with a cycle option
  25. - image buffering in a cyclic slideshow
  26. - copy a portion of or the entire image  to the clipboard, paste an
  27.   image from the clipboard
  28. - capture a window, the client area of a window, or a portion of or the
  29.   entire desktop
  30. - support for Windows 3.1 features like drag-drop and common dialogs
  31. - support for file name extension association and starting a slideshow
  32.   from the command line

  34. There are three versions of WinJPEG: a 386+ version for 386's or better,
  35. a 386 version for 386's or better, and a 286 one for 286's or better. 
  36. The shareware version is a fully functional 286 version.  The 386+
  37. version is twice as fast as the 286 version in decoding JPEG's without
  38. sacrificing image quality, and it can be obtained by registering
  39. WinJPEG.

  57. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  58. You are free to distribute this shareware version of WinJPEG as long as the
  59. following conditions are met:
  60.   1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  61.   2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  62.   3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  63.      is permitted.
  64.   4) This version is not to be bundled with a commercially sold package
  65.      without permission from the authors.

  68. INSTALLATION NOTES
  69. If you associate a file extension with WinJPEG, you can double click on
  70. a file with that extension in File Manager and WinJPEG will
  71. automatically display that file.  There are two ways to associate an
  72. extension with WinJPEG.  The easiest way is to run File Manager, to
  73. click on a file with the desired extension, and to select the Associate
  74. command from the File Menu.  Then type "winjpeg.exe" with the
  75. appropriate path (e.g. c:\winjpeg\winjpeg.exe).  The other way is to
  76. modify the Extensions section of the "win.ini" file in your Windows
  77. directory.  Your "win.ini" may look like this after you modify it:

  88. Note that you don't have to use the suggested extensions (e.g. you can use
  89. .jpe instead of .jpg); WinJPEG will automatically detect the file format.

  91. If you are using Windows 3.0, you must copy "commdlg.dll" and
  92. "shell.dll" to your Windows system directory(e.g. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).

  94. If WinJPEG GPF's, we recommend that you restart Windows before
  95. running WinJPEG again.

  98. HOW TO REGISTER
  99. If you use WinJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  100. WinJPEG.  When you register, you will receive the latest 286 and  386
  101. versions of WinJPEG, a user manual, and a collection of JPEG images (we
  102. will put as many as we can fit on 1 1.44M 3 1/2" floppy or  on 4 360k 5
  103. 1/4" floppies).  Also, the registered version does not have the
  104. reminder-to-register screen at the start.
  105.  
  106. The registration fee is $25.  Massachusetts residents, add 5% sales tax
  107. to the registration fee.  US residents, add $4 for shipping and 
  108. handling; non-US residents, add $8 for shipping and handling.  If you
  109. want WinJPEG e-mailed to your account instead of having it  physically
  110. mailed to you, there is no extra shipping charge.  If you are paying
  111. with a Visa or MasterCard, add 10% to this subtotal.  The 10% is the
  112. processing fee that we get charged for credit card transactions.

  114. Registered users of WinJPEG can purchase the latest version for $5. 
  115. Shipping and handling fees described above apply to these updates  as
  116. well.  Updates are available when you see a new shareware version.

  118. For e-mail registrations, you need to use a program called "uudecode" to
  119. decode the uuencoded file that we e-mail to you.  For your  information,
  120. a uuencoded file is a binary file that is converted to text by a program
  121. called "uuencode."  If your mail system rejects large  messages, we will
  122. split the uuencoded file into smaller parts before mailing the parts to
  123. you, and you will need to edit the messages with a  text editor before
  124. you can decode them.  Compuserve, America Online, and Prodigy, for
  125. example, do not permit large e-mail messages.   Also, the uuencoded file
  126. is rather large; it's approximately 1 MB for WinJPEG.  Compuserve users
  127. may find it less expensive to receive  WinJPEG via U.S. Mail.

  129. Registrations with the incorrect fee or with non-US currency will be
  130. returned.  Foreign registrations must send US currency or a check  drawn
  131. from a US bank.
